For Xbox Series X

OLED vs QLED for Xbox Series X 2026: Dolby Vision Gaming is the kicker

Xbox is the only console with Dolby Vision Gaming at 4K/120Hz, and that single fact reshapes the TV-buying decision. Samsung TVs are out (no Dolby Vision support, ever). LG and Sony OLEDs are the natural fit, with the LG C5 at $1,499 as the price-perf winner.

Critical Xbox-only feature

Dolby Vision Gaming at 4K/120Hz

Xbox Series X is the only console that streams Dolby Vision dynamic-metadata HDR in games. To take advantage you need a TV that supports Dolby Vision Gaming at 4K/120Hz. As of 2026: LG C5, LG G5, Sony A95L, Sony A80L, TCL QM8K, Hisense U8K. NOT supported: any Samsung TV (Samsung does not licence Dolby Vision in any product).

HGiG support, Auto HDR compatibility, and Dolby Vision Gaming are the Xbox-specific differentiators.

HGiG: the calibration feature that matters most for Xbox

HGiG (HDR Gaming Interest Group) is a calibration profile that tells the console exactly how bright the TV can render. Xbox uses HGiG during its built-in HDR Game Calibration tool: you adjust three sliders, the console stores the values, and games render HDR within those limits with no tone mapping.

The result is more accurate HDR with no clipping and no double-tone-mapping. Every TV in the table above supports HGiG. The benefit is largest on OLED where pixel-accurate brightness control is achievable.

Why Samsung TVs are a worse Xbox pick

Samsung does not licence Dolby Vision in any product line. Samsung S95D QD-OLED, QN90D Mini-LED, and Q80D LED-LCD all fall back to HDR10 or HDR10+ Game Mode for Xbox titles that ship with Dolby Vision Gaming. HDR10+ Game Mode is comparable to Dolby Vision Gaming on paper, but the title library is much smaller (under 20 HDR10+ titles vs 100+ Dolby Vision Gaming titles as of 2026).

If you are an Xbox-primary household, the LG C5 OLED at $1,499 is the practical pick. If you also need the brightness for sunlit rooms, the TCL QM8K Mini-LED at $999 supports Dolby Vision Gaming and hits 4,000 nits.

Xbox Series X TV questions answered

What is the best TV for Xbox Series X in 2026?+
The LG C5 65 inch at $1,499 is the best all-round TV for Xbox Series X in 2026. It supports Dolby Vision Gaming at 4K/120Hz, which is unique to Xbox (PS5 does not support Dolby Vision in games). It also delivers 0.1ms response, 40-120Hz VRR, and four HDMI 2.1 ports. The LG G5 at $2,499 adds peak brightness and the 5-year burn-in warranty. For a non-OLED alternative the TCL QM8K Mini-LED at $999 also supports Dolby Vision Gaming.
Does Xbox Series X support Dolby Vision Gaming?+
Yes. Xbox Series X is the only console that supports Dolby Vision in games. PS5 and PS5 Pro do not. Over 100 Dolby Vision Gaming-enabled titles are available, including Halo Infinite, Forza Horizon 5, and Gears 5. To use it your TV must also support Dolby Vision Gaming: LG C5, LG G5, Sony A95L, Sony A80L, TCL QM8K, and Hisense U8K all do. Samsung TVs do not support Dolby Vision in any form.
What is Auto HDR on Xbox Series X?+
Auto HDR is a console-side feature that adds HDR tone mapping to SDR games at the system level. It works on any TV with HDR support, but the visual benefit is most pronounced on TVs with high peak brightness and wide colour gamut. OLED and QD-OLED both render Auto HDR convincingly. Mini-LED renders brighter HDR but with blooming on dark backgrounds.
Does Quick Resume work better on OLED?+
Quick Resume is console-side, so the TV does not affect how it works. However, the instant pixel response on OLED (0.1ms) means there is no perceptible delay when the image returns. On Mini-LED there can be a brief backlight ramp visible during the transition. This is a minor consideration but a measurable difference.
